Drug Awareness Training for ASAP Officers and other interested club members

Drug Awareness Training for ASAP Officers and other interested club members

A Drug Awareness Training evening for Club ASAP officers taking place on Wednesday, April 25, from 6.30pm to 10pm in Naas, Co. Kildare. This is a basic training for volunteers working with young people through sporting organisations and is supported by the GAA’s Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) programme. The GAA’s Strategic Vision and Action Plan 2009-2015, states that all GAA clubs must have an active ASAP Officer in place and must adopt a drug and alcohol policy.

The training session will provide information about alcohol and drugs, identify current trends in drug use and current service provision for young people. Training will also allow volunteers to consider how to manage alcohol or drug related incidents in line with GAA Policy and best practise. The event will be of use to Club ASAP Officers and to any volunteers working with young people directly in your club.

This training will be held in the Foróige Office, Unit 3, Block 5, Monread Leisure & Commercial Centre, Monread Road, Naas, Co. Kildare and will be attended by the ASAP National Coordinator. (Directions will be forwarded upon confirmation of your place at the event.)

All clubs are encouraged to send at least one representative to this Drug Awareness Training.
If you would like to attend please contact catherine.byrne@foroige.ie or by post to Foróige Office address above, by Monday, April 23.

Training is open to all GAA volunteers working with young people in Kildare & Wicklow and is provided free of charge.
