Laurences Feile round up
St.Laurences v Monasterevin was a hard fought game despite what the score ended up. St Laurences coming out strong winning 4-5 to 0-0. The semi final saw Larries take on Kildangan Nurney in another tough battle which saw every score hard won. Kildangan Nurney took an early lead of 1-1 but Larries battled hard and took some great scores and found themselves ahead at half time on a scorelines of 2-4 to 1-1. The second half saw a great display of football and Larries held on for a great victory 2-7 to 3-2. The final between Laurences and Maynooth was a fast competitive excellent game of football. The game was played in great spirit and determination from both sides. St Laurences were worthy winners in the end and will now go on to represent Kildare at Feile. With 3 hard games of football being played it is impossible to single anyone out, it was great team spirit that got St Laurences the title. Special thanks to all mentors especially Shane, Pam and Enda .

Minor Division 2A Maynooth 4-13 Kildangan Nurney 2-6
Maynooth faced Kildangan Nurney in the second round of the minor championship. Having missed a huge number of players for the 1st round match due to a school trip, Maynooth had a changed team this week. The home team started brightly and scored a goal and a point before Kildangan Nurney got on the scoreboard with a well taken point. Both teams traded scores but Maynooth finished the half stronger. Half time score Maynooth 3-4 Kildangan Nurney 1-6. The home team took control of the second half and clipped over a few points in quick succession. Kildangan Nurney fought hard and never gave up and were rewarded with a goal. However that was to be their last score and Maynooth finished the game overall winners on a score line of 4-12 to 2-6. Both teams played some good football and can be very happy with their displays. Maynooth: Aoibhinn Conway, Meadhbh Nelson, Sian Miller, Jen McMahon, Edel Murray, Rachael O' Neill, Emer Ni Cheallaigh, Katie Donnellan (C) (1-04), Meabh Walsh, Orlaith Kirwan (2-04), Ciana Heneghan, Ali Kelly, Aishling Lande, Rachael Wilson, Kelly Cooke (1-03). Kildare Ladies Football Development Workshop

Kildare Ladies Football Development Workshop

Thursday 1st March @ 7.45pm in The Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge

A Chara

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you and your Club for all your hard work in the development of Ladies Gaelic Football within our county. It is important that we all build on this and ensure that we have the proper structures in place to allow us to continue to grow.

It is essential that we, as a county, develop a plan for the next few years and that we are all striving towards the same goals and it is as a result of this that we are organising a Club Development Workshop on Thursday 1st March in The Keadeen Hotel at 7.45pm which will be facilitated by National Ladies Gaelic Football Development Officers.

The main objective of this workshop will be to assist us, as an executive, to put a plan in place for the county including views and ideas from all our members.

We would like all 37 Kildare Ladies Clubs to send at least 3 representatives which can include players, parents, coaches or officers within your Club. It is important that we can get an interested and motivated group together to ensure that all current structures in the county are reviewed, any changes necessary are put in place for the future and a realistic yet challenging plan is initiated for the future. It is essential that we take on board the opinions of our delegates, players, mentors, officers and any other members of our Association, therefore we would encourage you to invite a variety of members from your club to attend.

It is important all clubs feel part of this process and it is imperative that your club is involved. This is just another step to the future development for the sport in the County but this can only happen with your help. The workshop will be 2 ½ hours but will assist and support Ladies Gaelic Football in our county for the future.

If you can confirm who will be attending from your club to lgfakildaredevelopment@gmail.com by Tuesday 28th February, we would really appreciate it.

I look forward to hearing your views and opinions and seeing as many people as possible in attendance at the workshop.

Regards,

Arthur Corrigan
Chairperson

Bord Gais Energy NFL Round 2 - Kildare v Donegal

Bord Gais Energy NFL Division 1 Round 2

By Jackie Whelan

Kildare 3-8 Donegal 4-11
Kildare came in to this game looking for a huge improvement on last weeks game. Aine Gately got the first opportunity of the game but unfortunately kicked it wide. The most notable change from last weeks game was the appearance of 2011 captain, Donna Berry. Donegal looked to have a certain goal in the opening minutes but Kildare keeper Catriona Dolan pulled off a super save. Orla Carr opened the scoring for Donegal on 4 minutes. Kildare moved the ball up the field and centre back Kate Leahy finished the ball to the back of the net. Geraldine McLaughlin scored a free for Donegal in the 8th minute, quickly followed by another point to equalise the teams. In the 9th minute, McLaughlin stepped up to bury the ball past the Kildare keeper. Donegals Eilish Ward lobbed a ball in and Dolan looked to have dealt with it but the ball found its way in to the back of the net. On 12 minutes, McLaughlin had added a third goal for her side. Roisin McCaffery added another point for her side a minute later. With 20 minutes played, a free kick from Gately dropped short to kick Kildare back in to the game making the score Kildare 2-00 Donegal 3-4. McLaughlin added her second free of the game and popped over another point a few seconds later. Grainne Houston scored a great point for Donegal with 24 minutes played. Aine Gately added a great point for Kildare a minute later. Niamh Mailey added a point for Donegal before Feeney added one more for the Ulster side just before half time. Half time score Kildare 2-1 Donegal 3-9.
Maria Moolick opened the second half scoring for Kildare with a well taken point. Eimear Fogarty scored a free a minute later in only her second game in a Kildare senior jersey. Another emerging Kildare star, Roisin Byrne lobbed in a ball that ended up over the keepers head bringing the homeside back in to the game. McLaughlin popped over another Donegal point from a free. Aine Gately did the same for the lilywhites at the other end of the field. 16 minutes in to the second half the same player was very unlucky not to snatch a Kildare goal. On 18 minutes Gately brought it back to 5 points between the sides and her determination added a further point a minute later. McLaughlin stretched Donegals lead back to 5 points. Eilish Ward scored a goal to rule out any chance of a Kildare comeback. Substitute Sinead Melia scored a super point for Kildare with 25 minutes played in the second half. This was to be the last score of the game on what turned out to be a good game of football with some great spells of movement from both teams. Kildare will be disappointed they didn’t get a result in Stephen O’Rourke Memorial Park. Some positives from the game include a determined performance from Aine Gately in the corner forward position, a never give up attitude from midfielder Aisling Holton but the main highlights and signs of encouragement for the coming season was the performance from newcomers Roisin Byrne, Eimear Fogarty and Erica Burke.
Kildare mascot for the day was Megan O’Brien from the Kilcock club. We look forward to seeing Megan represent her county some day in the future.
Kildare scores came from Aine Gately 1-4 (2f), Kate Leahy 1-0, Roisin Byrne 1-0,Eimear Fogarty 0-2 (2f) Maria Moolick 0-1, Sinead Melia 0-1. Donegal scores came from Geraldine McLaughlin 2-6 (3f), Eilish Ward 2-0, Orla Carr 0-1, Roisin McCaffery 0-1, Grainne Houston 0-1, Niamh Mailey 0-1 and Karen Feeney 0-1.

Kildare team: Catriona Dolan, Kiri Lowry, Aisling Savage, Niamh Quinn, Donna Berry, Kate Leahy, Denise Tierney, Grace Clifford, Aisling Holton, Eimear Fogarty, Maria Moolick, Roisin Byrne, Aine Gately, Siobhan Hurley, Erica Burke. Subs used Mary Hulgraine, Sinead Melia, Michelle Carey, Stacey Cannon.

Donegal team: Laura Gallagher, Orla Carr, Ciara Hegarty, Kelly Wilson, Grainne Houston, Niamh Friel, Kate Kenney, Aoife O’Donnell, Roisin McCafferty, Eilish Ward, Roisin Friel, Karen Feeney, Niamh Mailey, Karen Gruthie, Geraldine McLaughlin.

Kildare v Dublin - Bord Gais Energy NFL

Kildare v Dublin
Kildare senior ladies footballers opened their Bord Gais Energy league campaign with a home game against Leinster rivals Dublin. This is very much a new look Kildare team featuring a new manager and new faces for the 2012 season. Facing Dublin at any time of the year is always a tough task but this Dublin team arrived to Ballykelly in flying form and made their intentions known early in the game. By half-time they had created a gap between the sides Kildare 0-1 Dublin 3-8. Dublin continued to dominate the game and finished with an impressive win 5-18 to 0-06. On what was a bad day at the office for Kildare some positives to be drawn include a good performance from Aisling Savage in the full back line, Moolick worked hard and the highlight of the day was the debut of St.Laurences star Eimear Fogarty who scored 2 points and gave a good performance. The introduction of the new faces in to the team shows the transition taking place in the team at present. Other scores came from Aine Gately (0-2), Mary Hulgraine (0-1) and Gillian Behan (0-1). The Kildare team was Catriona Dolan, Kiri Lowry, Aisling Savage, Niamh Quinn, Michelle Carey, Kate Leahy, Denise Tierney, Joanna Timmins, Aisling Holton, Emer Fogarty, Maria Moolick, Mary Hulgraine, Aine Gately, Siobhan Hurley, Erica Burke. Subs: Grace Clifford from Timmins, Susan Byrne for Hulgraine, Gillian Behan for Leahy, Ciara Hogan for Carey, Roisin Byrne for Hurley, Sinead Melia for Behan, Dearbhail Kelly for Burke, Samantha Keatley for Quinn. Next up for Kildare is a home game against Donegal Sunday 12th February in Ballykelly at 2pm.
