PRO Report 2011

PRO Report 2011
As 2011 comes to an end so does my first year as PRO. I would first of all like to thank the county executive who have been very supportive to my role throughout the year, often stepping up to help out with a match report.

I would like to think I have made an impact on the promotion of Kildare ladies football throughout this year.  I have made a big effort to get match reports, photos and news out to various media sources ensuring an increase in our presence online in particular. In the past couple of weeks I have set up a new Kildare blog which will be updated on a regular basis. This can be accessed at http://kildareladiesfootball.blogspot.com/ The Facebook page has been a continued success and currently has over 900 followers. This has proven to be very popular with players from all clubs. It can be accessed at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kildare-Ladies-GAA/172449979450439 I would like to thank the local newspapers – Leinster Leader, Kildare Nationalist, Liffey Champion and the Kildare times, the websites – Hoganstand and Kildare GAA. Also a huge thanks to Killian Whelan and his sports team at KFM who have been very supportive in all ladies football matters. In particular live match updates on the league games has been great in promotion of our game throughout the county.

I put together about 2 or 3 newsletters throughout the year. These are time consuming to put together but my new way of producing these will be on the Kildare blog. I got some great feedback on these and the girls were delighted to have their names/photos in the newsletter.

I was lucky to have the title of PRO for the year and although this position is for one person, I have developed a wide network of fantastic people from various clubs who have been a huge help to me throughout the year. For fear of leaving out someone, I won’t name people but you know who you are – the people who I have relied on to provide reports on various games throughout the year. This has made my job a lot easier and I have enjoyed receiving the reports always highlighting the great work and passion alive and well in our clubs.

My involvement with the county teams has been a great experience and thanks to all management teams who have been so welcoming and forthcoming with information and player updates etc. In particular I would like to thank Karen Brady, the U16 management team and Paul Kelly for their assistance to ensure I covered the job on hand.

Going forward I would like to establish a PR committee to help in covering games be it with photos or reports or both as it is difficult to be in seven parts of the county at the same time on the one day. Such a system will take some of the workload off me and cover more games overall.

Before I get to the highlights there have been thankfully only a few lows. I have a poem to read on that called ‘Do you just belong’

Are you an active member
The kind that would be missed
Or are you just contented
That your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings
And mingle with the crowd
Or do you stay at home
And crib both long and loud?

Do you take an active part
To help the club along
Or are you satisfied to be
The kind to “just belong”?

Do you even go to visit
A member who is sick
Leave the work for just a few
And talk about the clique?

There is quite a programme scheduled
That means success, if done
And it can be accomplished
With the help of everyone.

So attend the club regularly
And help with head and heart
Don’t  just be a member
But take an active part.

Think this over member
Are we right or are we wrong
Are you an active member
Or do you just belong.

There were many highlights throughout the year. It is hard to single out one highlight from a year of many successes and progression. However the U16 win over Limerick in the All Ireland Shield final stands out. This was a magnificent performance from a talented bunch of girls led by a great management team. Its always an easy job to report on a victory like that.

In conclusion then, a warm thanks to everyone who has helped me in any way throughout the year. It was much appreciated. And finally thanks to Joe for his support to my role throughout the year and I wish him well in his future venture of senior county manager.
