U16 division 1 final

U16 division 1 final St. Laurence’s 3-12     Sarsfields 0-9
St. Laurence’s ladies footballers regained the county title that they surrendered to Sarsfields in 2010 at U15 level. Playing with a strong breeze behind them, Sarsfields held a slender two point advantage at half time. However, but for some great defending by the Lady Larries and some poor shooting under pressure for the Sarsfields forwards, it should have been a lot more. Seven points from frees and only one from play was not going to be enough to hold out against the Laurence’s forwards who took control in the second half. Within ten minutes of the restart, St. Laurence’s had taken control of the game. Substitute, Abbie Monaghan turned the game on its head with 1-4 from play in the second half to add the late first half goal from Derbhaile Byrne. Outscoring Sarsfields 2-9 to a 0-1 in the second half all but demonstrates how dominant the Lady Larries were for the second thirty minutes. The goal count would have been higher but for great performances from both goalkeepers, Katie English for Sarsfields and county goalkeeper Rachelle Kane for St. Laurence’s. Best for Sarsfields were Jessica Nolan, Orlagh Judge, Emma Lyons and Becky Houlihan, while the Lady Larries had match winning performances from Abbie Monaghan, Niamh Lawler, Ciara Dunne, Sarah O Neill, Emma Wheeler, Ciara Wheeler and Aoife Nolan.
