Aisling McGing Memorial Championship Round 1

Aisling McGing Memorial Championship Round 1 Meath 2-8 Kildare 2-3

The Kildare second team travelled to Blackhall Gaels in Meath to take on the homeside on their first outing of this competition.  Torrential rain played a part in this game and it was very tough conditions for all. For many girls, it was the first time to put on the Kildare jersey and they definitely did themselves proud. The girls got off to a great start with Serena Dowdall burying the ball in to the back of the net in the opening minute of the game. Helen Sexton popped the ball over the bar on 13 mins quickly followed by a Meath point. Kildare went a further point ahead through Leixlips Sinead McHugh with a well taken score. However this was to be Kildares last score of the first half and Meath began to dominate the field. Half time score Meath 1-3 Kildare 1-2. Meath snatched the opening score of the half but before long Lorna Merrins found herself on the end of a rebound and made no mistake in beating the Meath keeper.  However Kildare failed to drive on at this point and allowed Meath to dominate the play. Aoife May snatched another Kildare point but Meath finished off the game with a well taken goal to leave five points between the sides.  This was an impressive team performance for this Kildare team on their first outing together.
